Describe each lock on the door
If the door has a night latch and a separate mortice lock, explain which key or fitting is causing difficulty. Mention whether both locks are currently engaged. For a planned change, identify any handle, plate or finish you hope to preserve. The suitability of a new lock depends on its dimensions and fitting, not just a similar appearance.
Look beyond the visible cylinder
A new lock may not resolve a door that catches or a keep that has become loose. Describe movement in the fittings, difficulty closing the door and any damage around the lock. Ask whether repair, adjustment or replacement is appropriate. Where timber or frame work is also needed, clarify which part of the job falls within the proposed locksmith work.
Coordinate approval without unnecessary detail
If someone else manages the property, arrange a named contact who can authorise the work and provide access. For a non-urgent enquiry, photographs of the fittings may help explain the existing arrangement; avoid including keys, codes or unrelated personal details. Call 020 3670 6608 to confirm availability and the information needed for your particular door.

Make the first call useful
Have your full postcode ready. Explain whether you are locked out, the property cannot be secured or you are planning a lock change. For managed buildings, confirm who can approve the work and how the locksmith can reach the right entrance.
