Describe the movement, not just the noise
Does the handle lift, droop or stop part way? Does the key turn, and is the door currently open or closed? Mention whether the problem developed gradually or followed a specific incident. If you have already noticed a difference between operation with the door open and shut, explain it. Avoid forcing a reluctant handle or key.
Separate alignment from component failure
The cylinder, handle, gearbox, locking strip and frame keeps do different jobs. Poor alignment can affect how they work together, while a worn or broken component may require replacement. An inspection is needed to distinguish these possibilities. A photograph or a symptom can help describe the fault, but cannot establish which part has failed on its own.
Agree the repair and any parts required
Call 020 3670 6608 with your postcode and say immediately if the door cannot be secured. Mention any readable manufacturer name without dismantling the mechanism. Ask whether the proposed work is adjustment, a component replacement or a larger mechanism repair, and how parts availability affects completion. Confirm the cost and any further visit before authorising work.
