Keep private and shared locks separate
If your flat key works but the building entrance does not, describe that distinction when calling. Do not arrange replacement of a communal lock as though it belongs only to your flat. Contact the person responsible for the entrance and explain how other residents gain access. A shared key arrangement may affect which replacement is appropriate.
Make a move-in lock change a clear job
When arranging an authorised change after moving, count the locks on the private door and note which keys you have received. Say if a second lock has no working key. Ask whether existing handles and the lock body can remain, what replacement is proposed and how many keys are included. Keep the shared entrance outside that instruction unless separately authorised.
Report a difficult back or balcony door accurately
If your property has a uPVC door that resists locking, note whether the handle lifts and the key turns. Explain whether the fault is intermittent or the door can no longer be secured. Do not force it or dismantle the mechanism to identify a part. Call 020 3670 6608 with the postcode, access details and symptoms to discuss a repair.
Choose your locksmith service
Make the first call useful
Have your full postcode ready. Explain whether you are locked out, the property cannot be secured or you are planning a lock change. For managed buildings, confirm who can approve the work and how the locksmith can reach the right entrance.
